ABOUT ME
When you are choosing a hypnobirthing instructor, it is so important that you choose someone you connect with and feel drawn to. Find out a little bit about me below, including what made me become a hypnobirthing instructor and some fun facts too!
Hi there
I’m Fiona, a fully qualified Hypnobirthing Instructor, here to help you prepare for the most exciting life event. I live in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire with my husband Sam and our two children Henry and Maisie - who both very much keep me on my toes!
Most days you will find me with a child or two in tow, I love devouring all sorts of podcasts/books/audiobooks, ranging from all things pregnancy and birthy, right through to humour, business, mindset and self-development! As mum life can be so all consuming, I find it so important to find time for me, whether that is a quick walk around the nearby fields, meeting a friend for a cuppa and catch-up, or going off to do some solo retail therapy.
Nowadays, I love that some of my evenings and weekends are spent meeting lovely expectant parents like you, to help prepare for a positive and empowering birth.
Fun Facts
I travelled around the world when I was 19 with my best friend.
Sam and I got married in France - who doesn’t love a bit of cheese and wine?!
I have climbed Machu Picchu mountain in Peru, one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
We had a home birth with our second baby and it was the most magical, empowering, incredible experience!
Call me crazy but I get up at 5am every day for a bit of me time (before the chaos descends when the kids get up!)
My ideal Friday night probably consists of pyjamas, prosecco and pizza.
When I asked my best friend what 3 words she would use to describe me she said…determined, caring and adventurous.
My Hypnobirthing Journey
Being a person who loves a plan, I felt totally out of my comfort zone when I was pregnant with Henry.
After we completed an in-depth hypnobirthing course and learnt about all the elements of birth we could
control (turns out there is a lot!) our whole mindset for the rest of our pregnancy changed.
Six weeks into the first Covid-19 lockdown in April 2020, Henry was born in the most calm, undisturbed
and empowering water birth. The hypnobirthing course, books and podcasts I devoured really helped
ease my fear and anxiety around birth. We went into birth feeling confident, knowledgeable and excited, and
we knew exactly what we had to do to get the birth we wanted. Read more about Henry’s birth here.
Fast forward 2 years and Maisie came along too. After we had such a positive birth with Henry we knew that home birth felt like the right birth place for our second. This was the most magical experience, being in our own home, relaxed, safe and undisturbed. Within 2 hours of her being born into the water, the midwives had left, everything was cleared and packed away, and the 3 of us were snuggled up on the sofa enjoying tea, toast and newborn snuggles - bliss! Read more about Maisie’s birth here.
During my maternity leave with Maisie I decided to change my career path and do something that I absolutely love, and that gave me more time with my young, growing family. I trained with The Little Birth Company and I'm now so excited to be teaching people how birth can be, not just what you see in the movies (spoiler alert - this is NOT how birth should and can be!)
Hypnobirthing has changed my whole outlook on birth and, in fact, being a woman in general. So much of hypnobirthing is about science and learning about your body. For someone who likes a structure, a bit of order and to have a plan, I found this knowledge invaluable going into labour. Instead of being scared and afraid of contractions and the ‘pain’ that everyone described, I was so much more relaxed knowing what the purpose of each contraction/surge was. Knowing the science behind it all removed the fear, making the sensations feel so different; I knew it was just my body working to bring my baby down to be born - that made it feel so exciting!
I introduced one of my closest friends to hypnobirthing and, after going off and doing some research for herself, she said to me “why doesn’t everyone know about hypnobirthing? I feel like I’m part of a secret club!” It is my mission to make this ‘secret club’ not so secret - it’s an everyone’s welcome, every birth kind of club and I am so happy you’re here!
My reasons why
If it wasn’t for my two beautiful babies I would not have discovered hypnobirthing and had two incredibly positive birth experiences. There are so many reasons why I do this, but here’s just a few key ones…
I want a positive birth story to be the standard, not the anomaly.
I love helping families educate themselves with the knowledge, tools and options to have an empowering birth.
To spread the word of hypnobirthing and positive birth, removing the fear and anxiety that so often surrounds birth
I want every woman to feel like an absolute SUPERWOMAN after giving birth, whatever route it has taken to meet your baby.
My aim is to change the narrative around birth.
So my children to see first hand that hard work + passion + determination = success!
To be present for my children while they're so little, whilst doing something that I love too!
